Apple: Great Company with Lofty Valuation - Due for Pullback [view article]
To all the responders who accuse the author of writing an article to improve his short position: as if an article in Seeking Alpha could move a stock. At least he has his money on the line when he makes a call.Aug 29 06:31 PM
ConocoPhillips Is Latest Oil Major to Exit Low-Margin Retail Gas Stations [view article]
We can not drill our way out of this energy predicament. The sum total of all untapped North American oil on and off shore if delivered will power our present oil consumption for just months, not years. Ultimately oil will be gone or too expensive to retrieve so the sooner we wake up to the necessity for a renewable energy future the better we will all be. Big oil is getting out of retail gasoline distribution because they see that it is a fading industry. Service stations make more money on soda's than gas. Oil will be too valuable to burn on a trip to the store. The future for personal transportation is anything but gasoline powered. Smart people may someday plug their vehicles into a home solar charger and fuel up while they sleep from the days solar electrical storage. Or we may be walking again if we blow this opportunity to restructure into sustainable and renewable means for energy production. Aug 29 02:59 PM
Options Trader: Friday Outlook [view article]
I saw Obama's speech last night and liked what I saw and heard. He plans to mend fences with former allies, will end arrogant overreaching in our foreign affairs, plans to rebuild our army so we can actually stand behind our statements, aims to reduce our debts to China and others(can you believe that we did not even issue 30 year notes at the end if Clinton's term), will take steps to reduce dependency on foreign oil, and will attempt to sort out the health care mess. And he can speak in sentences longer than 4 words.McCain is an admirable person and I don't even resent his owning 7 houses. But he has moved from the center to garner votes from the party's Right Wing and has taken stands on issues he never would have taken were he not running for President. His maverick image takes a beating when you consider that he has voted with the Bush White House 95% of the time.
The Republicans have always served this country best as the party in opposition. When they get control of The Presidency their unwavering party loyalty turns them all into lemmings. How odd that fiscal prudence, restraining foreign adventurism, and domestic energy independence are now Democratic issues after this administration has undermined them all.

$125 Oil Not Sustainable for the Time Being [view article]
It is now August and the price of oil is falling, at this moment below $120. For how long, who knows. Maybe Obama's jawboning about releasing oil from the SPR woke energy traders up to the idea we might have a president who is not complacent. Anyway it looks like speculation does play a big part in the price of oil. Who knew? Aug 05 11:52 AMChesapeake Energy Pre-Call Notes: Another Quarter, Another Beat [view article]

Gray Bear, I own FEN which has taken a beating this year. Why do you think this is? Jul 29 10:33 AMNew Middle East Oil Kingpins ETF: More Concentrated, Slightly Pricier [view article]
I applaud any discussion in these pages that honestly inquires into profit and war. I have always looked at military spending, while allowing for its necessity, as a tax by diverting capital from the means of production to destruction. The US allocates more money for defense than all other nations combined. Is this out of whack? That said, some interesting economic adventures are now originating in the Gulf States since they are now recipients of an enormous cash flow. World peace through prosperity has as good a chance as any and is more likely to succeed than warfare. Jul 25 11:20 AMThe Ten Highest Yielding NYSE Stocks [view article]

More Bad News for the Anti-Ethanol Crowd [view article]
To some extent when we produce corn we are mining the topsoil that is a legacy 1000's of years in the making. This has been one of the great resource blessings that we inherited as settlers on the Great Plains. Lets not forget that this can be depleted like all our natural resources and in fact we are daily washing the topsoil away down the muddy Mississippi. The value of topsoil has rarely been considered in any equation as to the costs of corn or other commodity crops. Historically the wealth of nations rise and fall with soil depletion. Add this to the debate over ethanol and the idea of driving away our topsoil puts me in the camp against it. Jul 23 12:52 PMSix Master Limited Partnerships Worth Investigating [view article]
I own FEN and it has been trending down. Any insight as to why? Jul 22 03:04 PMIs Valero a Better Buy than Exxon Mobil? [view article]
As American consumers cut back in response to the climbing prices of most commodities, the slack is being absorbed by rising demand in foreign markets. We are witnessing a reallocation of natural resources away from our shores toward more dynamic economies. This rebalancing is overdue since we have long ago become wasteful and complacent with respect to our bounty. It is unfortunate that this shift in resources is flowing to countries who appear to be emulating our inefficient ways. We need more public transport, they are headlong into building individual transport. In some sense, every new car on China's streets makes it harder for us to keep ours rolling as usual. This is not necessarily a bad thing since having too many cars on the road is just as bad as not having enough.
If we act now, this country will adjust to these new conditions without undo hardship. The upside of wastefulness is that we can enjoy efficiency gains and still meet our needs. Precious time has been wasted by a failure of leadership unmatched in living memory. This failure is not only political, but includes our board rooms and CEO offices as well.

Peak Oil or not? Does it matter? What is ultimately of importance is that we begin to question the uses we put to the oil we find. And the increasing cost of oil based products, like food and transport for example, is focusing our attention on our uses and misuses. Even if the Saudis find another huge reserve of oil do we want to continue sending our hard earned money to them? Or to Mr Chavez, Mr Putin, or to Mr Ahmadinijad? Do we want to continue to fight wars over it?The sooner we develop safe, clean, renewable alternatives to our oil based economy, the sooner we will regain the prosperity and independence we are so rapidly exporting. We must look at oil and natural gas as a gift, and an opportunity to facilitate the transformation of society to a condition of sustainability. We owe this to the next generations who will be sorely impoverished if we fail to do so. Jul 02 09:58 PM
Nigeria: The Elephant in the Corner [view article]
Oil has been both a blessing and a curse for many countries. I agree that the sooner we eliminate waste, renew our transportation infrastructure, and develop alternative sources of energy the better. This is just a trial run for the real calamity that is on its way if we don't act effectively now. Jun 28 02:03 AM
