It is my understanding that toolbar searches are included in these numbers, as the toolbar search ultimately goes to the url that is measured. This is what many sellers have been saying for the past two years, does anyone know of any conflicting information?

Well, its just the hype and the simplicity that google is running on. When it comes to Search Relevancy, yahoo still rocks. Do this simple exercise yourself if you disagree with me.

Search for 'http' on both google and yahoo and see who provides the most relevant search results in the first page. May be the first few results are jumbled. How about the last 4 results on the very first page of google? what does sun, adobe, apache has got to do with http? Where as Yahoo is absolutely on bang.

IAC et al: Sorting Through Barry Diller's New Offspring [view article]
Noticed the supposed mistake. 1 share of "new" IACI is really 1/2 of an old IACI due to the 1 for 2 reverse split. New calc makes 1 share of IACI using this numbers above worth $19.38. Anybody else? Reply

The when-issued action is interesting. According to my calcs, the when-issued worth of 1 share of IACI today pre-split (today trades at around $18.24) is $28.88. Am I doing the math correct or missing something else that is relevant? Big buying signal if not!

1 share IACI = 1 share "new" IACI + 1/5 share TKTM + 1/5 share HSNI + 1/30 share TREE + 1/5 share IILG using your above stated when-issued prices.

Does this report include tool bar searches? Most people that I know don't go to Google.com or search.yahoo.com. They use the Google or the Yahoo! tool bar search. What's the point of this report if tool bar searches are not being tracked and more users are moving to the tool bar for their searches?

    Is Google's stock valuation lofty?
    Does Google need to grow?

I think not. Google simply needs to continue to deliver what users are searching for - that's all. And that's its secret for success.

What happens when Google obtains 100% of market share, or even close to that number? What else can Google depend on for revenue? What other business units can produce mind boggling growth that Google stock needs to keep it's lofty valuation?

    Lots of questions...not many answers!

Citysearch needs some improvements in seems that Yelp may be gaining marketshare and may eventually dominate the space. There's still huge potential for innovation in the space.

I don't see any recessionary trends, the fiscal results vary depending upon various factors which are not necessarily indicative of recession sometimes have nothing to do with economy. It's not fair to associate the Quarterly financial results of the corporates with recession trends. These results are many a times carrying forward adjustments made in the previous quarters. Reply

    b. it has thurs news headlines also
    c. even more frustrating is that ur economic calender for thurs is part of fridays newsletter,,
    d. ur economic calender when it works, is awesome, for example the e.i.a. not only includes the agency and the time to be released, but it also includes, graphs giving a clear picture of what the trend is.

5 Key Quotes from Amazon on the E-Commerce Industry [view article]

In the earnings press release from Amazon.com today, Amazon included a $53 million one-time non-cash gain as "operating earnings" for their reported FY08 Q3, thus increasing their reported earnings per share for the reported quarter. Although I am not an accountant, this does not seem legitimate.

Making this seem even more suspect (to me), is the fact that when asked by analyst Scott Devitt of Stifel Nicolaus during the subsequent conference call, Amazon stated that they are excluding said $53 million one-time non-cash charge in their full-year "operating-earnin... guidance. Is this acceptable?

Can they use a one-time non-cash gain as operating earnings one place, but not another?

    Can they use a one-time non-cash gain as operating earnings--at all ??

Sounds like Amazon, in effect, pulled a rabbit out of a hat to "make" their quarter, and please the Wall Street community. I can't imaging this is an acceptable, forthright nor an honest accounting practice. It may be even sneaky.

    "Operator"

Your next question comes from the line of Scott Devitt – Stifel Nicolaus

    Scott Devitt – Stifel Nicolaus

As it relates to the guidance and the change for the guidance last quarter you gave full year GAAP operating income guidance $740 to $940 and the GAAP operating income this quarter was I believe $57 million above expectations including the $53 million gain so I’m trying to get my hands around the updated guidance which is mostly unchanged from the prior GAAP operating income guidance and whether this new guidance includes or excludes the $53 million gain.

    Thomas Szkutak

Yes, the GAAP, the guidance excludes the $53 million gain."
